Akama Shrine, Shimonoseki

Visit Akama Shrine, an elegant shrine with a sad dedication. It commemorates Antoku, a child emperor who drowned at a very early age during the culturally important nautical battle of Dan-No-Ura. Observe the colors and style of the building and gate, said to be inspired by the folkloric, sub-aquatic palace of the dragon god Ryujin. Located on the waterfront not far from the battle site, the shrine affords views of the bay. • The view is also good. Parking is opposite the road. I think you'll be surprised at the size of water tenmenon and huge ema. Because it is a high ground, the view is also good. The image of Yoshikazu Without Ears was quite real and scary.

  • Interesting shrine dedicated to the child emperor Antoku who drowned at the battle of Dan-no-ura. Also the site of the famous ghost story about Earless Hochi.
  • Good place to sightseeing because there are lots of English translations.
