Yokohama Municipal Nogeyama Zoo, Nishi

Meet the red panda at Yokohama Municipal Nogeyama Zoo, the oldest zoo in Yokohama. The most popular attraction here is the petting area, where mice, guinea pigs, snakes, and fantail pigeons can be observed from up close, fed, and touched. A short stroll through this leafy environment uncovers some of the 100 different species that call the zoo their home, including primates, giraffes, bears, and everyone's favorite, the red panda. The zoo was only the second in the world to breed the Andean condor in captivity, and you can still see this majestic creature at the zoo's aviaries. • A free zoo, with an impressive collection of interesting animals. Clean and well run. However I couldn't help but be heartbroken by the small, unnatural cages, and depressed looking captive animals within. I have seen other zoo's around the world make huge renovations over time, to improve the environment for the animals and their sanity. If you feel strong empathy with animals, and have a genuine love for the natural world, perhaps avoid this zoo, as it may upset you like it did me.
  • A perfect place to visit and spend quality time (2hrs) with family esp kids. Well maintained with good aesthetics and fine landscaping. No odour and very serene. Appreciate the Zoo management and admin for the upkeep. Thank you.
