Sankeien Gardens, Naka

4.4
Stroll the winding paths of Sankeien Gardens, a traditional Japanese-style garden noted for its historic buildings sprinkled among the ponds and bamboo groves. Built in 1908, the gardens once formed part of a private residence belonging to a wealthy silk trader, and his family house still stands overlooking the other significant pagodas and tea rooms. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the flowered trails and undulating streams, which change with the seasons, adorned with cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant leaves in the early fall. The pond comes to life in summer, when the pink lotus blooms. Add Sankeien Gardens to your Yokohama travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Yokohama driving holiday planner .

  • Visiting this garden cost us an epic boot but it was worth it! It's amazing! Held better than an operating room, it's so clean that you can eat on the ground. And then a lot of flowers, plants, pagodas perfectly kept... Truly unmissable!

  • The weather was cloudy on Sunday, June 23. I was looking for hydrangea in the vicinity of Yokohama to see hydrangea, and this is a hit. I walked from Motomachi And Chinatown Station towards Honmaki for a while and took a bus on the way. There weren't many hydrangeas, but i was able to see the vivid hydrangea that began to bloom. The lotus and ayame were in bloom and were beautiful. If it gets a little hotter, the lotus will bloom, so I'm looking forward to it. The garden was very pleasant ♪

  • The most beautiful and tranquil garden that I have ever visited. Fantastic contrast to the bustle of the city. A great last day visit, one not to be missed.
  • Beautiful, very well groomed and maintained. Can spend anywhere from an hour to two without any issues. Has gravel paths, rock paved paths, and a few bridges. There are rest rooms all around, places to sit, places to buy snacks and drinks. Recommend!
