#3 of 2,148 in Things to do in Tokyo
Symbolic of Japan’s economic rebirth after World War II, Tokyo Tower stands proudly at a height of 333 m (1,092.5 ft), defining the Tokyo skyline with its orange and white stripes. This lattice steel tower, modeled on the Eiffel Tower, holds a communications tower and two observation decks. Reach the decks by elevator or by climbing the 600 stairs to take in a view of the city below. Directly beneath the tower, visit the four-story building that houses restaurants, souvenir shops, and an indoor amusement park. • Walked around Tokyo Tower after visiting the Zojoji Temple. It was great to see the tower but we didn't want to pay to go up it. It was quite busy as there was some sort of convention taking place in ...  more »
  • The tower acted as a beacon in allowing us to locate our hotel and to find our way back from Ginza. It is nothing special.  more »
  • I arrived in Japan just went to the Tokyo Tower, on the day of arrival, and also did not feel feel the tingle! Not as good as a symbol of Tokyo, Tokyo Tower, wanted to go before. At night, you can see the bottom on the inside of the glass, so it was a fun experience overlooking under Tokyo Tower! At the bottom floor has a variety of items for sale and souvenirs may be fact, Tokyo Tower in the middle of the floor to look at souvenir shops lunacy was there to buy souvenirs! Tokyo Tower merchandise very full!

  • Not much to do after a while, but great views. I didn't go to the top because of my fear of heights, but to the midway section, and it was still pretty cool to look out and get a view of the city. I went during the daytime last summer with a group of ~20 kids from my school, and it wasn't too crowded aside from my group. Gift shop has really cute stuff and it isn't too expensive. There's a glass section that you can stand on and see the bottom through (pictured). Don't know how I did it but I did aha. Really scary for someone who has a fear of heights. Overall fun, not too crowded, and I would love to go back at nighttime.
  • Locals that I know all saying that this is The Tower to go to. Even though there is the newer and bigger one. Besides beautiful view it also has some sentimental value for Japanese people. It looks more connected into surrounding landscape. Highly recommend!
  • Honestly prefer Tokyo Tower to Tokyo Skytree. Sure it's older and not as tall by comparison, but it's also not as crowded and the less high-tech lights is somehow more captivating to me. There's a nice little cafe up there where one can enjoy a nice cup of coffee (or hot chocolate) while watching the sun set over Tokyo.
  • For 900 yen, I think it's worth going up. We went at night but I think day time night be better for the top. The glass was scratched and the lighting in the observatory made my photos not clear. The glass on the floor wasn't that interesting. There are two floors. It's definitely worth going to at night to take photos of the tower.
  • Love Tokyo Tower. They generally have some exhibit going on on the first floor and souvenirs on the second. The observatory tower is nice, not too far up with a good view.
