Admire the stories to be heard at Sengaku-ji Temple, a famous Soto Zen Buddhist temple. Best known as the final resting place of the 47 Ronin, the temple's graveyard has a particularly powerful atmosphere and attracts pilgrims from across the country and farther afield. The true story of the 47 Ronin has become one of the most regularly told tales of the samurai code. In 1702, after avenging their unjustly punished master, the 47 Ronin committed ritual suicide, and their actions have been heralded throughout the ages as testament to the resilience, loyalty, and honor that lies at the heart of the samurai code. This temple is located a little up from Sengakuji-mae Station. There was a tomb and a museum of Ako Ronshi. There is also a statue of Oishi's built-in assistant.View original

This is a beautiful temple, very well kept. I recommend coming in the warmer months as entire sections were closed off when I visited in winter. But in late spring all the hydrangeas were in full bloom and made the serenity perfect for paying respects.

Burial place of the 47 Ronin and their Lord Asano. You can buy a pack of incense sticks and pay your respects to these samurai, which is a unique experience. There are some nice souvenir shops just outside the temple grounds. It's a pretty relaxing environment and a place of contemplation.
