Entsu-in Temple, Matsushima-machi

Built in 1646, Entsu-in Temple represents the most important temple of the area, which also serves as the mausoleum of Date Mitsumune. Unfortunately, the lord died young, at the age of 19. A statue depicts him on a white horse, surrounded by his faithful devotees. Tour the interiors to see the gold-leaf decor, with Western symbols such as hearts, spades, and crosses. The grounds of the temple contain several gardens, each with a different theme. Talk a walk through the rose and rock gardens, and then grab a bite at the restaurant on site. • In the middle of the Matsushima sightseeing, I visited along with Mizuwanji Temple, and contrary to the dignified atmosphere of Mizuwanji, thousands of roses were very healed.

  • Even if june doesn't, there are a lot of roses to enjoy the flowers and grasses of the garden, which is very nice, pleasant, very comfortable, and can be done by boat.

  • Beautiful place to visit while in Matsushima. Take a relaxing stroll through the grounds and enjoy local snacks (as well as one of their many soft cream flavors). In autumn, there was an illumination event. But staff constantly reminded people to ‘not stop walking’. It’s understandable because of the high traffic. Most people ignored them so they could take dozens of pictures. But I felt pressure to move along faster, so it was hard to really enjoy this paid event.
  • If you are looking for somewhere to go to appreciate the beauty of fall then I highly recommend going here, just not on the weekends. Entsuin has grown in popularity over the years and if you've been then you can understand why. With beautiful light ups and music to match the scene it's no wonder that on the weekends the place is so jam packed with people waiting to bath in the atmosphere of fall. It will cost you about 500 yen to enter if you are an adult though. However that is a steal given the amount of work it must have taken to get the place ready for fall.
