Nawate Shopping District, Matsumoto

2.4
#3 of 8 in Neighborhoods in Nagano Prefecture
Running alongside the Metoba-gawa River, Nawate Shopping District represents a stone-paved row of around 50 charming shops. During the 17th century, the street marked the border between the residences of the samurai class and the commoners on the opposite side. In present day, souvenir hunters have a range of interesting establishments to peruse, with shops offering antiques, curios, and knickknacks. Should you get hungry, explore options at the food stalls. Keep your eyes open for the statues of samurai frogs--popular photograph points that have earned the strip its nickname of "Frog Street." • It is a rope te street which originates from the place called a long and narrow bank like a rope in the south total digging of Matsumoto Castle and the Metoba river. It was developed as a approach to the Four Pillar Shrine. Each shop is fun to see and eat toys, antiques, and candy that seems to reproduce the scenery of the castle town.
