Matsumoto Castle, Matsumoto
Visit the 16th century complex of Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan's most renowned landmarks, nicknamed "Crow Castle" because of its dark facade. Admire the imposing structure, the oldest castle remaining in Japan, notable for occupying a spot on a plain rather than the more usual hilltop. As you step inside the main building, you'll notice that the interior features authentic wooden pillars and staircases, while the second floor contains a collection of guns. Climb to the top of the main keep for panoramic views of the surroundings. See Matsumoto Castle and all Matsumoto has to offer by arranging your trip with our Matsumoto online trip itinerary maker .

Matsumoto Castle Reviews
A very unique castle in Japan because it's black. The park was a pleasant stroll, and the castle itself is amazing. more »

The views from above are the only things to see and are not the big deal. if you have time walks, but it's not so much what you lose,
Another amazing piece of Japanese history perfectly preserved. There is not a huge amount of artifacts to see inside, but the experience and surrounding grounds are beautiful. Makes for some great photos. If visiting in winter make sure to wear two pairs of thick socks. As usual it's no shoes inside the castle and the floors reach zero degrees.
Very beautiful and scenic. The staff does a really good job ushering visitors around the castle for a smooth flow. A little bit of an exercise climbing the stairs, bad feeling for people without foot arches since you must remove your shoes. I also got good photos of beautiful Matsumoto City from the top floors of the castle.
