Teradaya, Kyoto

3.1
Step into the 18th century at Teradaya, the site of bloody battles and pro-imperial loyalist plots. During the mid-19th century, samurai Sakamoto Ryoma (who went on to dramatically change the course of Japanese history) was a patron of this establishment, and began plotting to seize the imperial palace here. In this well-preserved tavern, you can examine artifacts relating to this famous historical figure, and also see the reconstructed room where he and his friend Miyoshi Shinzo made their dramatic stand against 20 Bakufu patrolmen. Keep your eye out for a sword cut in one of the wooden pillars, a 150-year-old scar from the fracas. Take a look at our Kyoto sightseeing planner to schedule your visit to Teradaya and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Closing 15:40 and early attention is time. Take off your shoes, and tourism. Many photos and exhibits, to study. You could enjoy, you know as well as the building of the old Inn.

  • Too beautiful. It's a amazing place to travel in Japan
  • Cool little piece of history! This place looks exactly the way it was 200 years ago. You can see some of the battle marks through the house. Be aware when you come in you must take off your shoes and the place is quite small so be ware bigger people you will have a hard time and will need to bend your head all the time. If you are coming with a bicycle there is some space to park it next to the entrance. Usually the guard will help you park your bicycle. It is a great historical place. We recommend it strongly!!!
