Sanzen-in Temple, Kyoto

4.5
Bask in the elegant halls of Sanzen-in Temple, a Tendai school temple of imperial lineage, founded in 804 CE. As you enter its front gate, pass the series of connected temple buildings until you reach the kyakuden, or guest hall. Observe the displayed works of Japanese calligraphy and paintings on sliding doors, and proceed towards the traditional garden with a small pond and a hill. In the shinden, or main hall, observe the three statues of Buddhist deities, as well as a view of the entire estate covered in maple and cedar trees. Stop on Ojo Gokuraku-in Hall, which holds a statue of Amida Buddha, the temple's most prized treasure. To visit Sanzen-in Temple and other attractions in Kyoto, use our Kyoto online holiday planner .

  • I took a tour of my friend and his wife in China, and I wanted to show you this place. It was hard to climb up the slope because it was the parking lot at the bottom, but this time, I examined variously, put it in the parking lot at the top, put 500 yen in a wooden box, and arrived at the gate in about 100m, I climbed up the stairs, turned to the left, put my shoes in a plastic bag for three adults, entered the precincts, went outside where there was still snow, while looking at the beautiful garden of Moss, and while watching a small Jizo-san, I went up the stairs, and was doing the boiled radish, and was behaving to you. , I wanted to eat, but I got the red seal that I quit because I said that I did not want my friend and Mrs., and after the Sanzenin hospital, I would like to bring a camera next time.

  • Unfortunately we could not do the combination of the various temples, because the typhoon had destroyed several things, but fortunately had saved this magnificent temple where the photos are wasted, thanks to the moss that covers completely everything, leaving the Temple as when it was created

  • Absolutely beautiful, quiet temple, especially in fall—I also went during winter, and it was still beautiful but not quite as stunning.
  • Absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere here feels so peaceful. Momiji is gorgeous too. Honestly this place is so much nicer than a lot of crowded places in the city.
