The Ryōzen Kannon is a war memorial commemorating the War dead of the Pacific War located in Eastern Kyoto. The concrete and steel statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (Kannon) was built by Hirosuke Ishikawa and unveiled on 8 June 1955. The shrine beneath the statue contains an image of Bodhisattva Ekādaśamukha and images of the god of wind and god of thunder. Memorial tablets of 2 million Japanese who died in World War II are also stored here. Four times a day services are conducted in their memory. Also on the site is a memorial hall in honour of the unknown soldier killed in World War II.

Although it is on a tourist route, once past the reception there are significantly less people which is perfect to enjoy the tranquility of the place, under the gaze of Kannon (goddess of compassion, whose statue measures 24 meters).

Adult entrance fee at ¥300, huge statue of Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) to commemorate the fallen soldier during the war, you can also pay your respect to Buddha and Guan Yin here, very calm and serene environment.
