The area is very interesting not only for its architecture of those centuries, it is quite in Japanese discreet, but its history and specific Japanese culture. Ponto-ch, the district of Hanamati in Kyoto (hanamati - in the translation "world of flowers and evs", so calls the geisha community), known for its geiko (artist, geisha) and maiko (dancing child - the name of a geisha student). Here are the houses of geiko and traditional tearooms. Like Gion, Ponto-cho is famous for preserving forms of traditional architecture and entertainment, among which for japanese geisha - the first) ) The name Ponto-ch' from Portuguese "portmanteau" translates as "ponte" (bridge) and the Japanese word "-ch" which means city, block or street. As a bonus, we were able to get close to the Maikos and attend a tea ceremony.
Amazing kabuki experience! Highly recommend. The only disappointments were other attendees. One Western man had his baby that was only a few months old. It cried the whole time and only towards the end did he finally take it out to the lobby - where we could still hear it crying. Not cool man. We all paid a lot of money and I didn’t want to hear your kid cry.
Great performance not to be missed. Pay for the program to read English synopsis to be more informed about each act. Beautiful acting, dance, artistry, costume, and music performance.
