  • We headed down not knowing what to expect and it turned into one of those great days. We walked around and ended up running out of time to do everything we wanted to see and met some lovely owners of ...  more »
  • As far as the view you have food stalls, here if you are looking for something typical Japanese to try, eat, or just bring you back as a souvenir, you will find it safe. They sell from typical sweets, to fish, through spices, tea, etc..

  • 500 year old market. Go hungry, walk through, make a list of all you want to eat, walk back and enjoy the food. The knife shop inside is a great place to visit, however, Nishiki is strictly a cash only market. The shop owners are all very friendly, plenty of sample to entice you, our favorite place was the sesame store. Black sesame buns with a bean and sesame paste, deep fried....heaven on a cold day. So good we got up early on the day we were leaving, walked over from our hotel and waited, conspicuously nearby, waiting for it to open, absolutely worth the wait. The pickle selection is amazing, if you have an Air BnB with a kitchen, stock up here, the pickled eggplant is amazing with eggs. Be prepared for crowds and a wait if you go later in the day. Be prepared to wait if you go before 10 am, the 930 opening is not a hard rule.
  • Very interesting and unique place to go sightseeing. It's real fun to go through the crowds to look at each unique shop. I feel that most things are overpriced but you'll definitely find a unique souvenir here to bring home for sure! I would recommend getting a croquette at Meat & Delica, it's affordable and delicious. When walking around here, take in mind that you cannot take photos sometimes, so please be mindful of the shop keepers and respect them.
