  • I ended up at the Nishi Honganji temple just because I was walking past that area. I wanted to go to the Ryukoku museum but it was closed for preparation for some monthly exhibition. The lady at Ryuko...  more »
  • The building itself has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site, but there is no admission fee. There is also a tour that the monk of the temple guides you through.

  • Immense. Right in the heart of the city, near the station. Not very busy. Easy to explore at your own pace. Should take off shoes before stepping onto the wooden stairs.
  • This is one of the biggest temple in Japan, and it is pretty close to Kyoto station. Don't miss the Main Hall, the Daisho-in Hall and the majestic Karamon gate with beautiful carvings. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site, and not to be missed!
