Myoshinji Temple, Kyoto

4.3
A nationally designated Historic Site, as well as a Place of Scenic Beauty, Myoshinji Temple is sure to leave every visitor speachless with its beauty and rich history. A previous emperor’s palace, it was turned into a temple after he bacame a monk in the 14th century. During wars in the next centuries, this complex was mostly destroyed, only to be later rebuilt in the 16th century. Don't miss the bell, notable for being the oldest known example of a Buddhist temple bell, and remarkably still in use. When you enter the temple, pay attention to the ceiling and its colossal dragon, painted in such a way that it seems it’s watching and moving along with you. • The visit is the aunt of the entrance to the reception to guide two places at every 20 minutes intervals, the explanation of the dragon drawn on the ceiling and the temple Bell description of the national treasure in the Law Hall, the place changes kuri (the kitchen of temples), etc. will be served outside the building when the guide ends in about 30 minutes. It is not a visit like other temples to pay the admission fee at the admission reception and to be able to see the Buddhist statues freely in the garden or Fusuma painting. Visit without the freedom to say guide, Myoshin Temple sect Ryuyasu Temple is a visitor is many good. Admission 700 yen

  • I went to the Myoshin temple in Kyoto during the GW period (the Zen of my parents ' house was a Rinzai sect Myoshin Temple sect). The grounds were very large and there were not many people in a good way, and I could enjoy the quaint atmosphere. There seems to be a person of the guide at the time of the visit in the precincts, and the picture of the dragon of the ceiling that only the person who saw it is seen vividly, and the guide post explained how it was drawn in the wind. The room was very clean and the room was very comfortable.

  • I decided I had some time and took the premium tour. Good thing I did there was an interesting bathhouse and an awesome unryuu (cloud dragon) painting on the ceiling of the temple. Give the head temple a visit if you have time it is certainly worth a trip.
  • I am a believer of the Aichi Prefecture branch of Myoshin-Temple. So I want to say that Myoshin-Temple is the best temple. The believers in other temples will also say that their temples are the best.
