Kyoto Tower, Kyoto

#49 of 1,415 in Things to do in Kyoto
Enjoy a 360-degree panorama from the top of Kyoto Tower, the tallest building in Kyoto. The 131 m (430 ft) tall tower was opened in 1964 to coincide with the Tokyo summer olympics, and stands on top of a hotel and shopping complex. Visit the observation deck, which is nestled at a height of 100 m (328 ft), to observe the skyline of the whole city. You can also see the surrounding mountains, and even a couple of Osaka structures if the day is clear. Gaze through the free telescopes available on the deck, or visit the panoramic restaurant below. • You can see the Kyoto station immediately. There is a Starbucks on the first floor and it is always crowded with tourists. You can buy a souvenir from Kyoto, but there are many kinds of isetan nearby. The Kyoto Tower which was lit up at night reflected to the station and was beautiful.

  • The Kyoto Tower is an icon of the city of Kyoto's most famous and most easily visible because of its central location right across Kyoto station. The tower is more beautiful at night with the lights flicker of kerlap from a distance. I really enjoy the view of the tower due to its location near to the hotel where I stay.

  • A rather confusing building, shared between a hotel and various weird shopping malls. The place also smells dreadful. You have to use a combination of stairs and elevators. Once you are up there, the views are great and plenty of free binoculars.. 360 degree views Hard to find your way out again.
  • Nice tower directly at Kyoto station with several stores in the lower floors and the Kyoto tower hotel. The ticket to visit the top isn't that expensive but in my opinion is the view not very special. No special buildings nearby which can directly be seen. At least we didn't need to wait in line for going up.
