Kyoto State Guest House Reviews
We were disappointed that the Imperial Palace was closed for an upcoming event and rather reluctantly decided to tour the State Guest House instead and we were very happy that we did! This Guest House... more »
それくらい大切なモノばかりなのでし... more »It is located in the corner of kyoto imperial palace. Admission is 1,500 yen and children are not allowed to enter. I've been to the Akasaka Guest House in Tokyo, but I prefer it. You can leave your luggage in the coin locker (return type) in the basement, and rent a special guide terminal (free of charge) and go up to the 1f, where you take off your shoes and enter the museum. Anyway, there are a lot of staff. Private companies are struggling with labor shortages, but there are so many people here. I think that these people are only such important things, but i can't do it when I think that their salaries are higher than those of us who work so hard. The content of my work is not difficult and i don't make a big deal out of it. I've got to talk about it. It was really good to be able to see at my own pace using the terminal. There is a chair where you can take a rest on the way, too and you can see it slowly. In the case of akasaka guest house, there is almost no place to sit...
The Tokyo State Guest House might seem a bit hidden. However it's definitely worth a visit. I did an English guided tour where you got guided through the house in an hour. Getting all these different facts about the history of the building. They don't have a lot of English guides tours though. My tour started at twelve pm. I advise you to check the website and find the times of the tours for the dates you'd like to visit. As opening times also vary a lot. Thwrs a lot of craftsmanship in this building. Which you can observe again at your own leisure after the tour has ended. For the tour you'll get a earpiece, so you will hear everything perfectly fine. Although it was not that crowded inside the guesthouse. Definitely worth the visit. The guided tour did cost 2000¥, but it was worth every penny. Also you're free to take pictures for non commercial use (without flash)
The Kyoto State Guest House is a facility to receive foreign dignitaries and distinguished guests from all over the world. Recently it is open to the public to visit on certain days (which the information is on their website or their Twitter). Everything here is top-notch, built by Kyoto top craftsmen demonstrating their tradition skills, attention to details and sensibilities. The tour was very organised and pleasant. You could witness grandeur architecture, landscape, crafted furniture and many other superior artworks. * As of Sept 2018, no advance reservation required for individuals, just proceed to the West Gate for admission.
