Understand the evolution of Japanese arts at Kyoto National Museum, one of the most prestigious museums in the country. Originally set in an 1895 building, a huge modern wing with special pavilions was added in 2014. In numerous galleries, the museum tells a concise story of pre-modern Japanese art and Asian art through archeological relics, illustrated handscrolls, calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, and costumes. You can also see a collection of Buddhist paintings, lacquerware, and metalwork. Outdoor exhibits feature stone sculptures from Korea, early stone Buddhas, and Rodin’s "Thinker." Grab a drink at the lovely tea and coffee house, which sits in a spacious landscape garden. The museum is a five-minute walk from Shichijo station. • In the bullet train to Kyoto station there are a number of routes going from Kyoto National Museum. On the bus (1) second of, go to the bus stop to get off at stop "museums between 33 Hall is in front of the Kyoto National Museum, for the first time is recommended for those unfamiliar with. I would offer and wait for the next bus because it would want to sit down to Kyoto station bus stop is always made of a large crowd of onlookers, but always just come next bus information to want to sit. (2) it is a rain walk for 25 minutes, or large pieces of luggage have most definitely, less stressful way. Almost always seems to be straight on the road in a gentle uphill, so urban old town streets. (3) on the JR NARA line 1 you can shorten the walk than to tofukuji station in ticket fare will go to Kyoto station by Shinkansen bullet train get off at the second station "tofuku-ji Temple" and a 15-minute walk away. Fewer sidewalks, however, across the footbridge over the line from the Kyoto National Museum Road from tofuku-ji Temple Station is back on the road. (4) on the JR NARA line 1 and get off at the second station "tofuku-ji Temple" to the Keihan main line and get off at the second station "article", walk for 5 minutes (3) than the short walking distance (1) the bus fare is the root of the small. Change, however, considering the time it takes twice (2) the may soon get better. You may not otherwise is open at all times, unlike Tokyo National Museum is a general Museum closed (though and open Monday is a national holiday, closed the next day) Monday, but rather, have not opened only a week depending on the month. We recommend you plan your travel in advance please Museum calendar of official website. During the opening period Friday and Saturday open until 20:00 and the popular special exhibition are relatively empty. Other sights close up 17:00 after most of the sightseeing in Kyoto.

  • Great museum. The meiji section was closed when I came but there was still plenty to see. They honored my girlfriends student ID from the US too!
  • A wonderful museum with a fine collection. Easily walkable. A great way to spend an afternoon.
