Understand the evolution of Japanese arts at Kyoto National Museum, one of the most prestigious museums in the country. Originally set in an 1895 building, a huge modern wing with special pavilions was added in 2014. In numerous galleries, the museum tells a concise story of pre-modern Japanese art and Asian art through archeological relics, illustrated handscrolls, calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, and costumes. You can also see a collection of Buddhist paintings, lacquerware, and metalwork. Outdoor exhibits feature stone sculptures from Korea, early stone Buddhas, and Rodin’s "Thinker." Grab a drink at the lovely tea and coffee house, which sits in a spacious landscape garden. The museum is a five-minute walk from Shichijo station. • I went to see a special exhibition of sei-e. There was a volume, too, and it took three hours, but it was impressive. The building was clean and clean. Currently, it is said that the Meiji Kotokan is closed, but i would like to go there again when the earthquake-resistant construction is resumed.

  • I like museums and museums, so I visited a museum in Kyoto for the first time. Parking is free within an hour. Note to the head so as not to exceed one hour. The Meiji Kotokan, which was built in the Meiji era, has no exhibits due to the vibration-free construction, and only the exterior is visited. The Western-style building tells the very history of the museum facility. In the fountain square, there is a statue of Rodin's "Thinking Man". It is a great shooting point because kyoto tower can be seen far from this vicinity. At Heisei ChiShinkan, we held an exhibition of "National Treasuresei Sei-e and Tokimune's Great Treasures". Photography is prohibited in the exhibition room. We will look at the exhibition from the third floor. The exhibitions of mandala, Buddha statues, scroll spictures, etc. were impressive. If it starts exhibiting at Meiji Kotokan, I'd love to visit it.

  • Great museum. The meiji section was closed when I came but there was still plenty to see. They honored my girlfriends student ID from the US too!
  • A wonderful museum with a fine collection. Easily walkable. A great way to spend an afternoon.
