Kyoto Botanical Garden, Kyoto

#9 of 78 in Parks in Kyoto
A hidden gem in the city, Kyoto Botanical Garden offers one of the more comprehensive collections of plants in the country. Established in 1924, the gardens feature open lawns, vibrant flowerbeds, ponds filled with flowering lilies, and groves of cherry and maple. Stop in the conservatories to see a wealth of tropical vegetation, and consider bringing along a picnic to enjoy on one of the quiet lawns. If the season's right, you'll see the bloom of cherry blossoms during spring (supposedly lingering longer than most), or the autumnal colorings of the maple trees. Put Kyoto Botanical Garden and other Kyoto attractions into our Kyoto sightseeing planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • We recommend both 200 yen admission fee and greenhouse 200 yen admission. Small creeks, ponds, so there is a wind park. I think when flowers did not bloom at all so I went in February so time is very important. Greenhouse plants and flowers are all always is very good.

  • It takes 10 minutes on foot from Kamigamo-Jinja shrine. Entrance fee: 200 yen. Walked in was partly was disappointing because it rarely flowers this time of year, the weather was nice. I thought it was the annual passport. Greenhouse costs 200 yen.

  • Very beautiful, even in winter. The lack of leaves on the trees gives the park a very special atmosphere. Entrance is cheap at 200 yen, after that you can spend hours strolling around in the garden, enjoying the scenery. Many picturesque spots, the park is full of people taking pictures. Recommended if you are in Tokyo and want to do domething beside visiting temples.
  • Excellent garden experience. Planned to spend 90 minutes there but went over 3 hours. Multiple garden types in one which you can understand would look different as the seasons progress. Well set out and with great infrastructure. Handy to metro. Late blooming cherry blossoms were a real bonus for us, night time illumination an option also.
