  • It is a shrine known as the God of the North Shirakawa district in Kitashirakawa-cho. When you cross the bridge into the realm, you will find 135 long stone steps. Surrounded by a deep forest, there is a shrine and a main shrine, and there is atmosphere though it is very quiet. It is also a famous place of hidden cherry blossoms.

  • I visited at the end of the year. It is a little north of Ginkakuji and a venerable shrine that is earlier than Ginkakuji. It crosses the bridge to Shirakawa, and passes through the Torii, and the long stone steps continue. There were no other worshippers in the small shrine, but it was very beautiful with a little snow makeup.

  • Kitashirakawa Tenjingu Shrine : This shrine is built at the end of the 15th century by the famous shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimasa. He is the key person for prosperous aspects of Japanese culture such as the noh tradition, the way of tea, shoin style architecture etc. The shrine is located north of Ginkakuji Temple which used to be a private villa of Ashikaga Yoshimasa. It is said that whenever he headed for Ginkakuji Temple, his horse acted up on his way and this shrine was built in this location which is a gate of Ogre as well as the gate way to Yamagoe Drive to Mt. Hiei. Kitashirakawa Tenjin-gu is the very head shrine in charge of the most important god of the whole Kitashirakawa area. ( Trans-word+ : TGM Kyoto Guide Masayuki Iwasa with Kitashirakawa Tenjin-gu Shrine chief priest Mitsuyoshi Osaki 北白川天神宮・宮司)大嵜 充克 )
  • I cross Shirakawa, and a relatively long staircase goes to the short approach. The stairs are mossy in some places and feel the atmosphere. There is a big tree, and the history is felt. There are several other companies in the main shrine as you climb the stairs. The surrounding woods are also groomed or I feel the brightness. I was able to spend it quietly in the image that the person in the area was used well.
