Heian Shrine, Kyoto

4.1
Noted for its scarlet tori gates, Heian Shrine remains one of the most important Shinto sites in Kyoto. Built in 1895 to celebrate the city’s 1,100th anniversary, and relatively new in comparison to similar religious sites, the shrine was designed to resemble a smaller replica of the original Heian Palace. Step into the complex through the large, vividly colored gate, and explore its picturesque grounds. Roam the courtyards and Chinese-style buildings, or, for a small fee, enter the gardens that encircle a large pond, and stroll along stone paths lined by weeping cherry trees and maples. • The location was great. Especially paid shrine, the scenery is excellent, there are many eight cherry blossoms, hoping to visit again in the cherry blossom season. Carp in the pond is half a metre long, there are paid carp bait, self-coin, carp duck turtle will come to rob Eat, it seems usually not many people to feed. One step in the garden is a memorable one.

  • What a wonderful surprise! The grounds were absolutely beautiful and well worth wandering around. We also opted to walk through the garden space which was 600 yen per person. I would highly recommend it as the scenery was lovely and well worth the money. Very peaceful space! Be sure to allow yourself at least one hour to really see the area if you're also planning on walking through the gardens.
  • I think it’s worth to paid to go inside! In the season of spring, cherry blossom blooming, so beautiful! And there got so many kinds of Sakura for you to see. In fall season, I think the maple tree will show very romantic view. And the environment is very comfortable, as you are walking inside, you can feel the power of nature! Also it holds Japanese traditional wedding so often, you can meet it sometime, to see how Japanese culture works is great.
