  • The fact that there is a garden museum in Kyoto is what travel guides like to keep quiet. Which could also be because getting there is a bit more elaborate, but absolutely worthwhile. The Bimmelbahn takes you out of Kyoto, then the cable car up most of the Hiei mountain on which the museum sits. For the final piece, you have to change into the cable car, which almost stops in front of the museum's main entrance. The concept of the museum is very extraordinary, because all flower arrangements are based on the images of French impressionists. As a copy in the garden, which is almost a continuation of what you see there. Where the picture stops, the real flowers start. Optionally the real water lily pond. From a viewing platform you also have a fantastic view of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake. Small gag on the edge: Tiny doors have been placed on some trees, giving the impression that someone lives there. Children in particular are likely to have their fun here. In summer, there are extended opening hours with evening lighting for a few days. I have been there twice now, and can recommend the museum in good conscience. The famous Enryakuji Temple is about 20 minutes from the museum through the forest, the path is superbly signposted. The cable station sells discounted combined tickets for cable and cable cars as well as museum.

  • A place where you can feel relieved to be surrounded by greenery even in hot summers. I felt like I was climbing the slopes, but the place where Monet's water Lily Garden was recreated was just like a picture. The café on the top of the mountain was surrounded by a scent of flowers while admiring the lake Biwa, and it was a graceful holiday.

  • Absolutely beautiful and amazing place. Worth it! It feels so good to just site on a bench and enjoy the wind and the aroma there. A peaceful where you can connect with the nature.
  • This is a strange place. The views are delightful and you're high up enough to see a lot. The gardens are nice too if a little run down. However, the top of the mountain is not a great place. There are a lot of large satellite dishes and aging brutalist architecture that ruin the scene. Also very full of tourists! The lower viewing area after just the train is the most peaceful.
