Yamato Museum, Kure

4.3
Visit Yamato Museum to learn about the "history of Kure"--the modern Japanese history after the Meiji Era--as well as Japan's shipbuilding technology and iron industry. Opened in 2005, the museum's pride remains its 1/10 scale model of the battleship Yamato. Head further along to see other artifacts like a Zero fighter plane Type 62, manned World War II torpedoes and suicide crafts, and a midget submersible research vehicle of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The parking lot usually has enough space for visitors. Take a look at our Kure road trip website to schedule your visit to Yamato Museum and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • If you go to Hiroshima, you should see the Yamato Museum in Kure. It was said and it went for the first time incidentally of the trip. Battleship Yamato is on display on the first floor. There is a commemorative photography from the front side of Yamato, but there is a charge, too and we can take a photograph from the front side. If you go down the aisle, you can take pictures with zero battles and submersibles. There is also a theater on the third floor, and there are images about Yamato. I arrived around 9 am, but the parking lot of yamato museum was full, but there was a shopping center right next door, so i could use the parking lot there. When we went there, we were doing the 27th exhibition, and when we purchased tickets and sets for the Yamato Museum, it was 800 yen for the general public. The japanese museum's admission fee is 500 yen for the general public.

  • I came to Hiroshima to visit this museum. You can see the history of the Japanese navy, the history of battleships and submarines. A 1/10-scale model of the real thing of Yamato is displayed in the middle, and it is overwhelmed. I also learned the sad story of a human torpedo.

  • Easy accessible by JR train 30 min from Hiroshima. Nice museum and giftshop but very limited english
  • I was surprised to find this so interesting, as I’m not so into warships, but this museum was just as much about local history, which was really informative and a good accompaniment to the Hiroshima memorials. They have a great app with English, Chinese and Korean audio commentary, a well-stocked gift shop, and friendly, helpful staff.
