When it opened in 1930, Ohara Museum of Art held the first collection of Western art to be permanently exhibited in Japan. Created in honor of painter Kojima Torajiro, the museum now houses an expansive collection of Western and 20th century Japanese art, with special emphasis on 19th- and 20th-century French painting and sculpture. Start your tour at the classically styled Main Gallery, meander past the pond where water lilies echo the works of Monet, and finish at the Craft and Asiatic Art Gallery to absorb some Eastern culture. Free audio guides are available. Make Ohara Museum of Art a centerpiece of your Kurashiki vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Kurashiki trip planner.

Very broad collection of artists! I was pleasantly surprised by the collection. The facility is wheel chair accessible with the exception of about three rooms in the craft and Asian gallery.
