Step on the first land to emerge from the depths of the ocean at Daisekirinzan, the northern tip of Okinawa. Dated at 200 million years old, this ancient piece of land boasts lush tropical fauna, punctuated by striking rock formations reminiscent of Godzilla's spined back. Four well-marked hiking trails around the park take you through various parts of the landscape. The shortest, a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk, leads you 600 m (1,968.5 ft) through forests of banyan trees. The other trails range in length up to 1.1 km (0.6 mi), and take you across the strange rock formations and to viewing points high above the coast--expect some modest climbing. Wear sturdy shoes and bring along some water. A cafe and facilities at the trailhead let you rest and refresh after exploring this evocative landscape. Put Daisekirinzan on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Kunigami-son route planner.

Visited with my elderly parents. There's a 600 metres wheel chair friendly route so it was managable for my parents. Along that route, there's a pavilion where my parents could rest while I explored..... more »
Long drive up north to this place. Reached there pretty early as such not many people were there yet. There are three walking courses (all very well paved), although most will take the medium course..... more »
We visited in rather bad weather, but it was still totally worth it. The guides only speak Japanese and explain a lot, but in the end the views on the pathways are what makes the experience. Rocks with imaginary shapes... Monkeys aliens, cats and so on. Very nice view of the ocean from the hill and lots of amazing banyan trees.
Came on the last day of my 6-day tour to Okinawa. Didn't research on this place before coming so I was not prepared for anything about this place. Actually, you do not need to be very prepared to come. This is a very good place for family hike. On arrival, you get a simple briefing by the local staff, in Japanese of course. It has 3-4 routes to offer. All ranged from 30-60 minutes walk. As I was not prepared, I chose the easy route for my family. The forest greeted us with lush green vegetation and plants. The air was as fresh as what you can get and the temperature was just welcoming in early November. The trial was very well tidied with sufficient resting areas along trail. You could find heart-warming services at the little lodge at the trial beginning that offers umbrella (shaded or transparent) and walking sticks for the unprepared. The lodge offered detailed maps and handouts for you to navigate along the trails. You would not worry of getting lost in the woods because you would find small green ropes on both sides to guide you through. We finished the walk with ease and completed the 30-minute walk in about 20 minutes. Nice place to go for a relaxing and leisurely walk. Recommended !!
