One of Japan's most iconic structures, Kumamoto Castle dates back to the 15th century and draws flocks of visitors with its distinct architecture and scenic grounds. This castle was designed by a local warrior, who made it an effective defense fortification. While visiting the complex, you can roam the castle's stone walls and turrets, some of which survived unchanged for centuries, admire the imposing main keep, or pay a visit to the onsite museum, where you can view displays about the history and various reconstructions of the site's buildings. • Due to the earthquake in 2016. Is out of bounds for now till further notice. The souvenir shop and the adjacent temple is still open to public. The main building is undergoing intensive construction. ...  more »
  • It's been a long time since Kumamoto Castle! The victims of the earthquake are so terrible. Three years later, it still seems to be a long way to start, but I hope to rebuild it someday. Most of the main circles are not allowed, but you can see the site of reconstruction from the tour course. There is also a shuttle bus called Shiromekun. In addition, there is a place where there is a souvenir and a meal which becomes Josaien, too, and it was done as a show of yuru chara Higomaru. On the other hand, it is only now that we can see the reconstruction site♪

  • Wish the castle will be renovated soon. So sad to see the rock, the debris of structures downs there. Even though the great of man-made castle is still there. Worth to spending time walking around the place.
  • Many parts of the castle was affected during an earthquake. They are currently restoring the castle. But still a very beautiful place!
