Admire the monumental statue of Kōtoku-in, one of the largest Buddha figures in Japan. The towering bronze statue dates back to the 13th century and sits outside a Buddhist temple in the small town of Kamakura. Enjoy the view of the 13.3 m (43.8 ft) tall Amitabha Buddha, an imposing sight dominating peaceful temple grounds. For a small fee, you can venture inside the hollow statue to see the elaborate structural work that makes up this gargantuan monument. I have been inside several times in a span of almost a decade. The gardens are always well maintained and it’s relaxing inside. The statue is big but not gigantic. One more interesting factor are the shops and restaurants outside the temple area. The beach is also walking distance.
