Horyu-ji Temple, Ikaruga-cho

4.4
See one of the area's seven great temples, the UNESCO-protected Horyu-ji Temple. Founded in 607 CE by Prince Shotoku, one of the early promoters of Buddhism in Japan, the temple represents one of the oldest surviving places of worship in the country, and contains some of the oldest standing wooden structures in the world. The spacious temple grounds have been separated into two main precincts, with the western section home to most of the historic features, including a five-story pagoda, a main hall, and a central gate flanked by statues of Kongo Rikishi. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Ikaruga-cho holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Horyu-ji Temple and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • I wanted to revisit the place of the memories of the school trip! There was a checkpoint in three places in terauchi, and the staff who wore a blue uniform put the entrance check mark! Why three places? It seems to have something to do with justifying the admission fee of 1500 yen. He was also tightly told that you are not from the bounds. In fact, the staff in the uniform told me the shortcut to the toilet, but i looked down on the criminal from the top, even after that. I spent the day feeling sorry! How about the elderly staff being a little learned about customer service, how to say things, attitude, etc. I will never set foot in the village of The Mido again! One uniform ed staff said that the religion of Japan is Shintoism. It's not about taking a little into religious issues... it's a world heritage site. Visit date: January 2019

  • A wooden building over a thousand years ago. A five-story five-story pagoda that looks like five stories. An octagonal dream hall common in ancient architecture. There is a nakamiya-ji temple next to The Yayo Bodhisattva. Horyuji temple may be the most favorite of all Japanese architecture. I visited for the first time in the summer of 15. It was a school trip of the junior high school. I saw a towering five-story pagoda in the hot sun of early summer. In my own way, there are things that attract people from temples and temples in Kyoto to the architecture of Nara. What's that. Kyoto has an elegant and gorgeous image, and even the buildings that do not sparkle like Ginkaku have a somewhat elegant atmosphere, but I feel like nara has a refined wind. I feel that the representative is Horyuji temple and Todaiji. If you think about the old days of Tenpei, it's a matter of time before you walk around seeing all the Horyu-ji temples. For the third time since the summer of 15... I wonder if it's the fourth time. No matter how many times I visit, I never get tired of it. If you're visiting, early in the morning is a good place to visit. There are still few people, and the road of the gravel is beautiful, too. It's not a snowy morning, but it's also fun to follow in your footsteps for the first time.

  • Very classic in terms of the design. It is really the prototype of Japanese buddhist temples. From then on, Japanese created their own style of temples. The temple of Princess Sudoku is one of the most fascinating. Half of its roof is covered with tiles and the other with wood bark. It is the combo that is the unique, reflective of Princess Sudoku's view about Shinto and Buddhism. He brought Buddhism to Japan. He tried to make peace with Shinto--the local religion.
  • This place is awesome. Ticket is a bit expensive i.e. ¥1500 per person. But this ticket includes visit of three place inside the same establishment including museum.
