Hiroshima Castle, Hiroshima

3.6
When the original 16th-century structure crumbled in 1945, Hiroshima Castle was erected in its place as a historically accurate replica. The iconic castle once served as a home of the daimyo, the feudal lord of Hiroshima. The structure's modern facsimile, which shines in white with a partially wooden exterior, contains a museum dedicated to Hiroshima's history before World War II. The ninomaru (outer castle wall) consists of the castle's main gate and turrets adjoined by a warehouse. Step inside to see details of the castle's reconstruction. • You can walk from the A-bomb Dome, but the nearest place is The Shinkeien Garden of Hiroden. From the castle view, you can see the city of Hiroshima.

  • Small and quaint this rebuilt castle, the “3rd” version boasts a lot of interesting history and artifacts. It’s not as big and grand like other castles but if you’re into history you’ll like the different exhibits here. There’s a lookout area on the most top floor of a 5 story place though each floor has a pretty small exhibit.
  • If you are interested in Japanese history or historical buildings I doubt you'll ever tire of seeing edifices like Hiroshima Castle. The grounds are easy to navigate with the castle being tucked away in a corner. There is also the option to take a boat ride around its moat. The castle has a museum inside its walls that is spread over four of its five floors, the fifth floor being reserved for external views of Hiroshima.
