Hikone Castle, Hikone

Enjoy a visit to the complex of Hikone Castle, hailed as being one of the best preserved castles in Japan. The castle, largely intact since its completion in 1622, sits perched on a hilltop overlooking Lake Biwa. Admire the historic building, designated a National Treasure, and climb the stairs to the third floor for panoramic views of the lake and surroundings. While touring the castle premises, you can also pay a visit to the museum to observe an array of relics from the past, or take a walk in the scenic gardens, which boast an ornamental pond and nine bridges. • When I went up to Hikone Castle and came down to go back, it was 15 o'clock and hikonyan seemed to have just been the time for the presentation, so I was able to meet him. I didn't expect to see you, so I was happy. Hikonyan was cute cho.

  • Hikone Castle for the first time in four years, this time i was able to enjoy slowly because there is also an early morning thing. The national treasure of the castle is enchanted by the beauty which combines the gable blast, the irimeya blast, and the tang blast. The atmosphere of the inside is also only in existence, it seems to have slipped back time. The view from the top floor is beautiful with a panoramic view of Lake Biwa.

  • Great example of one of the remaining 12 original castles in Japan. Between the castle and associated buildings and the gardens you can easily spend 3-4 hours here. Lots of uneven stairs and paths to climb so you need to be able to move OK.
  • A designated national treasure & one of key castles in Japan. It’s a well preserved wooden superstructure, but extremely steep to climb the stairs inside the main castle tower. It’s fairly well maintained, gorgeous & yet peaceful to walk around inside. It’s a good place to have a panoramic city view & watch the sunset.
