Hakodate Seikan Renrakusen Memorial Museum Mashumaru, Hakodate

#4 of 18 in Museums in Hakodate
History Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
A huge 1960s vessel turned into a floating museum, Hakodate Seikan Renrakusen Memorial Museum Mashumaru tells an interesting story of the development of transport in Japan. Feel the navigation console and learn about the development of the Japanese railway system in the large ferry, owned by the Japanese Railways and commissioned to transport trains, cars, and passengers between Hokkaido and Honshu. Operated until 1988, the vessel-turned-museum is now moored in Hakodate port, which also offers plenty of interesting industrial scenery to explore. The museum offers little information in English.
