  • I took my son and went to a New Year 's ceremony. My son's favorite shrine.
  • Ohara Shrine ( Fukuchiyama ) This Shrine is located in a village called Ohara in the south-east part of Fukuchiyama City. The village is known for its historical remaining of Ubuya ( Birth-giving house ). It was believed that birth was supposed to be given before the presence of deity of Ohara Shrine in this village and Ubuya was a sacred place to give a birth to a child. For this reason the entrance of Ubuya is facing toward the main hall of Ohara Shrine. This Ubuya is located in a spot on the ground where the river is flowing around the village. Ubuya is designated as a tangeble folk cultural property of Kyoto Prefecture and the origin of the nickname of this village " Hometown of Ubuya ". The shrine was established in 852 and its current structure was rebult in 1796. The structure is considered to be a symbol of this time of architectural history and today it is designated as an important cultural asset of Kyoto Prefecture. Inside the shrine there are some drawings depicting agricultural life in the region on Ema ( wooden wish plate ) as well as impressive wood sculpture of a dragon. The Ema is in the structure with thatched roof in the center of the ground. The shrine is also housing a scroll written a ledgend of Ohara village preserved with a whisker of a monster snake escaped from a battle with a local warrior who tried to protect the village. The guardians of its deity are dongs which is a symbol of this shrine. The village is located very close to Ayabe City on its south-east. Its location is where the route 173 meets route 59 making a loop around the stream. It would also be nice to visit this area in harvest period of rice. The field around here turns into gold in the sun. ( Trans-word+ TGM Kyoto Guide )
