Dazaifu Tenman-gu, Dazaifu

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Dedicated to the Shinto god of learning Tenjin, Dazaifu Tenman-gu traces its origins back to the year 905. Wander the complex and admire the ornate woodcarvings, red-gold accents, and classic swooping rooftops that adorn the buildings, particularly the lavishly decorated main shrine. Stroll through the shrine's surrounding gardens, featuring ponds, bridges, and other smaller structures surrounded by Asian plum trees. Don't miss a chance to try a local type of grilled bean cake, known as umegae mochi--you'll find it sold by many vendors along the main trail to the shrine. • Good place to visit. Not far from city. Just take express train to the last stop and walk pass the shopping street. Please visit Starbucks coffee there. It’s quite unique interior design compare to other branches.
  • Easy to get there. Not far from Fukuoka. There are many souvenir shops in front of the shrine so you can try traditional tastes of Japanese food.
