Explore Kobe Kitano Museum (Ijinkan-gai), a city district settled by foreign merchants and diplomats after the Port of Kobe was opened for international trade in the 19th century. Elegant and luxuriously decorated mansions and embassies still populate this street and serve as museums. Each charges a separate admission free, but if you're not interested in seeing each individual museum, a stroll through the pleasant street gives a good sense of the architecture.
