Chinatown (Nankinmachi), Chuo

2.3
Venture past the ornate street gates and carved lions into Chinatown (Nankinmachi) for a quick change of scenery, culture, and cuisine. The neighborhood dates back to the 1860s, when Kobe's ports first opened to foreign trade and the earliest Chinese immigrants moved into the city. A large population of Chinese still live there, and the brightly colored signs, many restaurants, and shops selling Chinese imports and souvenirs preserve their distinct heritage. • It was different from when I came here on a family trip about 20 years ago, and I didn't think i'd try to eat slowly at all the stalls selling food for walking. There was not a unique shop which stood out, too and it passed.

  • I visited at noon on weekdays. It was crowded with tourists though it did not go to the people of the holiday which returned to the meteorite. Some shops and restaurants were closed, but there were many lunch shops, so we didn't have any problems for lunch. In addition, there is a store such as Chinese-style ingredients, and it was suitable for a small souvenir.
