One of the city's most iconic areas known for its flowering cherry trees, Chidorigafuchi plays home to a park, a lengthy pedestrian path, and a historic moat. Originally part of the defenses of the now-ruined Edo Castle, the moat and earthworks suffered heavy damage during World War II. You can visit the park surrounding the moat and wander its 700 m (2,297 ft) pedestrian walkway to take in the views of the seasonally blossoming cherry trees, a symbol of the region. Alternatively, rent a paddleboat or canoe and explore from the water, winding your way between the moat walls surrounded by low-hanging trees. Put Chidorigafuchi and other Tokyo attractions into our Tokyo road trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • It's the best hanami spot in Tokyo. I love Meguro River too but Chidorigafuchi is more majestic. Try nigh time viewing too.  more »
  • The cherry blossom season is the main place. The rest of the season is just a moat. It's natural and pleasant in the heart of the city, but it's neither any more nor less.

  • In my opinion, this is the best sakura sightseeing spot in Tokyo. Ridiculously crowded in early spring, especially in the end of March. Sakura trees along the northern boat moat is the most beautiful part of this place, especially at dawn, sunset and night (illumination). The closest station to get this park is Hanzomon station of Hanzomon line (Tokyo Metro Subway) by the exit 3a or 3b. One of the renowned places to visit for cherry blossom viewing. Located in the heart of Tokyo it attracts tourists and natives alike. The park is well maintained with proper paths to walk. You can go boating in the lake as well. It offers picturesque views of the numerous cherry blossom trees around the lake. Good place for photography as your frame won't get hampered by people. There are staff on site to assist you with maps and directions. The park also has public restrooms. Good place to visit on a spring cherry blossom weekend at the end of March.
  • Very peaceful and nice to walk. It's near the imperial palace.
