A giant, 80-year-old poplar tree made famous by a 1972 Nissan ad campaign, Ken & Mary Tree stands alone in a mustard field against rolling hills and vast fields. Named after two characters in the commercial, the tree stands out as a landmark of Biei region, and even gives its name to a nearby bed and breakfast. Bizarre for most outsiders as a tourist attraction, the location makes a nice stopover if you are driving in the area. You can reach the famous poplar in 10 minutes by car from Biei railway station, or rent a bicycle at the station.
