Verona's Cathedral (Duomo), Verona

Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Historic Site
Consecrated in 1187, Romanesque cathedral Verona's Cathedral (Duomo) features 14th-century frescoes and a projecting porch that is supported by two griffons and decorated with 12th-century sculptures by Nicholaus. The Gothic windows are part of 14th-century renovations, while the Baroque designs at the top of the facade came along in the 18th century. The cavernous apse dates to the mid-12th-century. Stick around to hear the church bells, still rung in the Vernonese tradition. The cathedral is included on the multiple-monuments pass the city offers. • Beautiful cathedral. Inside and outside. Inside is elegantly built with wide arches and width that is able to show that the cathedral is very well designed. Entrance is at the rear and shared with st Elena church. Cathedral and church can be seen in less than an hour. Worth visiting.
  • Good but don't plan too long here as there's a relatively limited amount to see. It's big and beautiful inside so well worth it but it doesn't take long to see. A fairly short walk away from the city centre.
