  • It is a beautiful attraction in the old town that testifies to the presence of the longobards. There is so much history in the st. Peter's complex at Court. Admission is free but it's best to inquire about the schedules before going there. Roman, paleo-Christian and medieval finds have come to light in archaeological excavations! Outside a beautiful bell tower and inside wonderful frescoes.

  • I visited in December 2017 only the hypogeum for lack of time. The visit was embellished with a multimedia didactic system that illuminated and described with an evocative audio accompaniment the individual artifacts. The oldest part consists of a frigidarium of traian age, fallen into a state of abandonment already between the 3rd and 4th century A.D. Between the 5th and 7th centuries there develops an early Christian cemetery area with the tomb of a certain Socrates, defined in the epigraph "vir spectabilis" : it was a high-ranking magistrate who died in 497. Next to it, it is interesting the tomb of a little girl, Theodenanda, name goto, dated to 566. In one corner of the frigidarium stands the burial, dated to 629, of a certain Albulus, with the epigraph containing curses against the desecration of tombs in search of precious objects. The construction of the palace of Arechi II in the 8th century involved the spa building and in particular the frigidarium. In the 12th-12th century, the frescoes, still partially visible, date back, representing a theory of saints (including Our Lady Eleusa with Jesus in her lap that juxtaposes her face with that of her mother, St. James, St. Peter, St. Catherine of Alexandria and a saint unidentified bishop; on another wall, St. George, indistinguishable and St. Nicholas of Myra) and St. Catherine of Alexandria and Our Lady on the throne with child; the presence of the Egyptian saint, Catherine, whose blood was believed to be endowed with taumaturgical powers, testifies to the transformation of the environment in to a classroom of the Salernitan Medical School.
