  • The medieval twin windows are filled with colored glass and are beautiful and attracted to the eye. It seems to be used for something now. Beyond the street, the unnaturally large bell tower of the Church of Saint-Nicolas was also the fortress of the Pierleoni family. The church was covered with construction sheets and could not be seen, but it is interesting to have two towers across the street.

  • It looks like the ruins of the Pierre Leoni family, a famous Roman family. It was on the left as I was walking from the Marcello Theatre to the Church of Santa Maria Cosmedian.

  • During the twenty years, a very large area, around the Capitol, it underwent many urban upheavals. The PierLeoni case wasn't demolished just because it was in the right place. His tower was a pair with the bell tower of St. Nicholas in Prison became the natural fifths that the architect of the time decided to leave as a frame to the future way of the sea.

  • This so-called medieval building of PIERLEONI, is one of the few buildings in the area that have saved from the work of the years "20 and 30" that for the construction of the Sea road, today precisely via the Teatro Marcello and the isolation of the Capitol determined the Demolitions of most of the buildings along that area. The building that was considered functional to the aesthetic embellishment of the new road, making the pair with the bell tower of the Church of St. Nicholas in front, was also restored, using elements related to other buildings demolished. As a whole the complex stands out compared to the adjacent constructions and has some elements that characterize it, like the Windows mullioned and Trifore. Note: The Pierleoni are an ancient Roman family (originally of Jewish religion) which was very important, politically and economically. The most important person of the family was the antipope Anacleto II (1130-1138), with the course of the centuries the family, lost its influence and died out in the EIGHTEENTH century.
