  • In a fully built urban area (tuscolana after door smart) is located in a public garden this large mausoleum. It is a great mound tomb (the third largest in the world).

  • The Mausoleum of Alessandro Severo is for greatness the third mausoleum of Rome, after that of Adriano, Castel Sant'Angelo and that of Augustus in Piazza Augusto Imperatore, next to the ARA Pacis. Its defilated position in relation to other burial places is not accidental, it is located at a point where various axes intersect, the Tuscola that runs along it a few tens of meters and the Via Latina, which has only a few traces left in the urban fabric along the PA RCo of the tombs of via Latina. The funeral chamber, which is accessed through a short corridor, reminded me of a miniature Pantheon with the difference that the opening in the ceiling that we find here was not wanted by the builders but made by the archaeologists of the time to be able to access the Grave. The curious thing, browsing on the internet are some shots of the beginnings of 1900 in which you see this artificial mound that stands out in the then Roman countryside with a tower on its summit. Tower that will be demolished after lightning blows the shots causing it to collapse in part.
