Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, Castelnuovo dell'Abate

4.7
A former Benedictine monastery with a Carolingian edifice, Abbazia di Sant'Antimo offers archaeological intrigue. While there is no proof Charlemagne founded the site, the early foundations date back to his era. The abbey's humble interior houses Carolingian-era carvings depicting animals and plants. You'll see the inspiration for these works of art right outside the chapel doors, where vineyards, mountains, and landscaped gardens invite you to explore. • Beautiful Abbey in a breathtaking setting. One can see it from far away and it is well worth the visit. There is also a herb garden situated on the same premises and it is interesting to see what all the different herbs were used for and which ailmentswere cured by different plants.
  • Beautifully tranquil spot with a typical Tuscan scene of village perched behind. Has an interesting herb garden and shop. Wonderful light cascades inside plain interior.
