Trip Planner: Europe / Italy / Campania / Province of Naples / Island of Capri / Anacapri / Blue Grotto
Explore the illuminated blue waters in the cavern of Blue Grotto. This cave on the island of Capri stretches 60 m (196 ft) into the cliffside. The intense blue coloring comes from the light conditions specific to the narrow cavern. Take a small rowboat through the entrance of the cave to witness the glowing water. Well-known for its acoustics, you can listen to the boat workers singing their favorite opera pieces, adding to the cave's atmosphere. The boat trip itself is overpriced, but due to the necessary crossing of a narrow canal, during which one has to sit back in the boat very far, so as not to hit the ceiling with your head, has something of the return to the lap of Mother Earth, and the turquoise Glow of the water inside in the dark has something mystical, which is only unfortunately destroyed by the exaggerated singing and octopus of some boaters, probably due to the expectations of certain tourists (at least if there is as much going on there as around Easter, as my wife and I were there). Despite overpriced - both the rowers and the management of this magical island are very much to be reckoned with, because someone has to maintain this unique rock formation in the Gulf of Naples and its magic and the living conditions there also for the Make residents livable and dignified.
It was fun and all but the cost vs reward isn’t worth it. 5 mins in a dark cave for at least 14 euros, on top of the cost of taking buses or a boat or taxi or LONG hike. I would not recommend it for the difficulty and price.
20 min each way (17 euros). More than 1 hour wating on the boat. 3 min inside Blue Grotto (additional 14 euros for entrance fee). Plus tip for row boat. It looked cool but lots of wasting time.
