Church of All Nations (Basilica of the Agony), Jerusalem

4.7
Admire the huge portal mosaic depicting Jesus weeping over the fate of Jerusalem at Church of All Nations (Basilica of the Agony), sitting at the foot of the Mount of Olives. This Franciscan church features three large entrance arches, classical marble columns, and numerous vaults painted blue. Built in 1919-1924 funded by joint donations from Europe and both Americas, the church sits on the foundations of a Crusader chapel abandoned in 1345--which itself stood on the site of a 4th-century Byzantine basilica. A grove of ancient olive trees adorns the churchyard. Observe the devotees prostrate themselves upon the holy rock of agony where Jesus reportedly prayed before his arrest.
