Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum

#3 of 7 in Things to do in Capernaum
Visit Mount of Beatitudes, believed to be where Jesus delivered his Sermon on the Mount. Remains of an old Byzantine church dating back to the fourth century prove that Christians have been commemorating this site for over 1,600 years. Today, a humble Roman Catholic church sits on top of the hill, and it is here that Pope John Paul II celebrated mass in March of 2000. The church is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens and a captivating view of the Sea of Galilee. A visit to Mount of Beatitudes represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Capernaum trip itinerary planning website to plot your vacation.

  • As I've said in other reviews, our tour guide liked to talk. A lot. Not necessarily about what we were seeing. When we were here, before he dismissed us to go into the church and then enjoy the ground...  more »
  • If you travel towards the mount or beatides you'll get a spiritual feeling. Dormant you reach a rare and in all beauty and especially rest surrounded church building the mount of Beautudes. What struck me was the many monks present with a black pij. I went to a conversation and it turned out that they came from the far Russia and confirmed this church after a visit to Capernaum. The peace and beauty and the described contacts made the visit an unforgettable one.
