Went to visit the castle but it was closed. We needed to kill some time before check-in to hotel near by but got the impression it was not worth it with castle and other houses closed. If there was..... more »
Bunratty Castle was a very nice attraction. I can see the reason it's said that this is the most authentic castle in Ireland. It's really more like a little village. The castle is great to explore, but get there early so you don't have to wait in line too long to go up and down the stairs inside the castle. Make sure you make it to the library at the top. The ceiling is amazing.
We were not aware of just how expansive this site was until we started exploring. The castle is just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of buildings and gardens to explore and enjoy. The staff of the castle were very informative with the history of the castle and the various furnishings within. I'm glad we chose this as our first stop out of the airport. We ended up spending nearly 3 hours here.
