Plaosan Temple, Yogyakarta Region

Visit Plaosan Temple to see the imposing twin temples of this partially restored 9th-century Buddhist complex. Two box-shaped temples identical in style sit side by side, their roofs a mass of bulbous stupas (pointed reliquaries), rising to a central pinnacle. Step inside to view impressive sculptured reliefs on the walls and stone statues guarding the empty lotus pedestal of bronze deities, long since pilfered. Two fearsome dwarapala--huge stone guardians--guard the entrances to each temple. Hundreds of smaller shrines and stupas surround the twin main temples, a handful of which have undergone restoration. Uniquely for structures like this, the complex bears an inscription with the names of those who built it. • From the center of Prambanan, it is about 20 minutes by bicycle, but the road sign indicating the Praosan Temple which was halfway through did not follow the corner properly, and i managed to get there by GPS.

  • Prambanan was one of our goals during our visit to Yogyakarta and we were not disappointed. The temples are beautiful, the structures well maintained despite the effects of time and the surrounding gardens and paths are pleasant. On our rather "little" visit, which was nice. The large spaces also make you feel less tight. I highly recommend this visit and I prefer it to Borobudur, cheaper, less overcrowded and especially without elephant attached ...

  • Couple of temple for glory romantic couple in the past we could see as a witness of peace building. It's beautiful temples with mixed style of Hindu and Buddhist looks. Elegant and gorgeous buildings. You may take pictures wonderful sunset or sunrise here. Please support on conserving this valuable heritage.
  • Glorious, mysterious but lovely atmosphere at Plaosan Temple. Even just stop by for a moment, my son and I used to visit this temple on our way from Jogja to Klaten. We feel peace in there.
