  • This park has more of a rehabilitation feel too it. More canals and rehab locations than I expected. But it has Orangutans and beautiful views. Easier to get to than Tanjung Puting.  more »
  • To get to the park it is necessary to take a boat in Palangkaraya and sail along the river for about 40 minutes. August is dry season, so the river goes a little low. This makes transit difficult, as there are many tree trunks at the bottom and the boat hits them and gets a little stuck. The expedition along the river is very interesting. First, because the water is completely black, because of the roots of the trees that grow on the sidewalk. Secondly, because you have the opportunity to see some animals, such as families of long-tailed macaques, kingfishers and other birds. The cottage you can stay in if you spend some night in the park (we were 2) is very simple and does not have many amenities. We were sleeping in a room with two mattresses on the floor, and we ate with the local family who accompanied us. This time in coexistence with the local people seemed to me a very enriching experience and one more reason to visit the park. Next to the hut you can find an observation tower, right at the end of the forest, from where you can see different types of birds. Regarding the park itself, we do several trekking scans along different paths. It should be noted that they can be found with greater or less difficulty, but it is worth highlighting several points regarding this park: - The land you move on is not easy. It is full of roots and is very soft, so it is easy to stumble. Our guide told us that in the months of January and February it is completely flooded and that the water comes from the knees. However, it is possible to make the walks. - It's not a place where it's easy to see wild animals, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. In our case, we saw a male orangutan and several snakes. I would definitely recommend that you visit this park, not only for how beautiful it is but also for the effort that the local population is putting into making it known and that it is, little by little, more accessible to all visitors. Their happy faces when you tell them how much you have enjoyed trekking or when they find a wild animal says it all. Also, you know that, with your visit, you are contributing to its development. Gradually new routes will open up and improve the services offered but, for now, it is one of the best sites that can be found to know the real jungle and feel like a real explorer. I really hope that this comment will give you the push needed to encourage you to visit this park and live an experience, to my mind, unique. As a final tip, it carries mosquito repellent.
