Camp Leakey, Central Kalimantan

#2 of 10 in Parks in Central Kalimantan
Come face-to-face with orangutans in their natural environment at Camp Leakey. Established in 1971 and named after paleo-anthropologist Louis Leakey, the park is a leading research and conservation center for endangered primates. Keep an eye on the ground: Borneo orangutans often walk on all fours, whereas their Sumatran counterparts prefer to hang out in trees. Guests can visit the park during the day with a guide, but are not allowed to stay overnight. Make sure you have the proper permits before entering.
