Looking out over the Taj Mahal, Saha Burj offers some of the best views of the iconic monument. Elaborately decorated and engraved with precious stones, this octagonal 17th-century tower topped with a marble dome was commissioned by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is believed that the Shah spent his last years imprisoned in this tower, gazing out through the ornamental niches intended for the ladies of the court. Notice the carved fountain in the center of the entrance hall. Arrange to visit Saha Burj and other attractions in Agra using our Agra holiday planning tool .

this is the place where shah Jahan was was kept by Aurangzeb. He was, you can say, prisoned here till his last breath. He used to gaze the Taj Mahal, tomb of his beloved wife, from the window of this space.

Shah Jahan used to either read the Quran or gaze at his beloved wife’s memorial from this veranda. This corner was the only solace in his last days. It is said that Shah Jahan kept on gazing at the Taj Mahal till his last breath right from here. This is an octagonal tower in which Shah Jahan was held as a prisoner by his son as he requested that he wanted to spend his life looking at Taj Mahal.
